Bay View is a religious resort community in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Bear Creek Township, Emmet County on the Little Traverse Bay. It is 3 miles east of Petoskey on U.S. Highway 31 and just west of Petoskey State Park. The ZIP code is 49770 and the FIPS place code is 06260. It was originally formed as part of the Chautauqua movement. The Bay View Association of the United Methodist Church was founded in 1875 by a group of Methodists to be a religious retreat. An educational program of lectures and music began in 1886 and the community developed around these activities. Bay View is known for its Victorian style cottages and peaceful scenery. This small community consists of 30 community owned buildings, 440 cottages, 2 hotels and a post office. Also a beach (with a swim area), a children's pool at the beach, a sail house, a recreation house, and Boys and Girls Club program. Two historic inns in Bay View are the Stafford's Bay View Inn and The Terrace Inn Bed and Breakfast. The Terrace Inn was built in 1911 and offers use of the private Bay View Beach, tennis courts and cross country ski trails. The Stafford's Inn was built in 1886 and offers a full complimentary breakfast and free use of the hotels bikes. Also air conditioning, a business center and an Inn Library where guests can read books, magazines and enjoy coffee and tea.
