Eagle River didn’t have a good harbor. However, it became an important port for provisioning the mines and shipping copper. Long docks had to be built out to reach deeper water in Lake Superior. Today, Eagle River is a summer resort community.

ATTENTION GEM & MINERAL HUNTERS. Near Copper Falls (between Eagle River and Eagle Harbor) an old mine dump contains natrolite and datolite. The datolite is mostly porcelainic white, but occasionally delicate tints of pink and yellow and copper and silver inclusions are found. Datolite takes a beautiful polish.
