Escanaba

Escanaba is the largest city in Delta County and is located at the mouth of Little Bay de Noc. This city offer marinas and waterfront parks, a mall, a fine arts center, many small town shops, a downhill ski park and tubing run, and a casino just 13 miles west. Delta County Historical Museum, 16 Water Plant Road, Escanaba, MI 49829, Phone: (906) 786-3428. Fifty years of memorabilia are housed in the museum, including vintage costumes, furniture, a blacksmith shop, bank and post office displays. An entire room is devoted to the area's railroad history. The dome of the Railroad Room is the original cupola from Escanaba's main depot. Outdoor displays include a logging sleigh, antique school bell and a rudder from one of the area's notable shipwrecks. The Delta County Archives includes a wealth of documents and photographs including newspapers, city directories, yearbooks, family scrapbook and oral histories. Open daily June 1 to Sept. 1. Next to Sand Point Lighthouse.
