Gay is locate on an isolated stretch of Keweenaw Bay’s upper east shoreline. This hamlet was named after a mining official Joseph Gay. The vast expanses of stamps tailings along the Lake Superior shore east of town give the area an eerie feeling. The area so inhospitable that even weeds won’t grow.
