Northern Michigan: Hunting & Shooting

Autumn is the beginning of Northern Michigan’s hunting seasons.   Hunters head for the forest and meadows in search of upland game and waterfowl.  The morning air is crisp and forest is ablaze in beautiful red, orange, red and gold.  You will also notice archery deer hunter’s in local shops and restaurants disguised to look like trees or piles of leaves.  It is a great time to be Outdoors  the days of autumn hunters celebrate Northern Michigan’s national holiday,  November 15th.   The opening of Northern Michigan’s rifle white-tail deer season.  Hunter orange is the color of the day.  Hunters head for camps throughout Northern Michigan.  Many schools close for the opening day.  How could you teach school with most of the teachers and students miss?  ample down-home hospitality, attend a hunter’s supper at a small town church or club.  Try the hunter’s stew, barbecues, and a wide range of homemade pies and other foods.  The wild hunting stories that are shared over these meals can only be surpassed by the whoppers told by fishermen.
