When the Duluth, South Shore, and Atlantic Railroad tracks finally reached Kenton in 1889, the surrounding white pine was cut and shipped out by this railroad line. Farming followed logging. Today, there remain a couple of bars, a store, and a trim Forest Service office on the north side of M-28.
