The Bay. A village at the head of Keweenaw Bay in Baraga County. In the 1940’s, the Ford Motor Company Upper Peninsula Enterprises located here. Henry Ford has a summer home near here in Pequaming. L’Anse is now home to Celotex Corporation. Population: 2,500. Big Lake and Virmillac Lake: Perch, Crappie, Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass.

Huron Island Lighthouse, Located at Mouth of Huron Bay, L'Anse, MI 49946. Phone: (906) 524-7988. The Huron Island Lighthouse, constructed in 1868, still stands today atop Huron Island, the second largest island of the Huron Islands chain in southern Lake Superior. The lighthouse was built to guide vessel traffic between Marquette and Pequaming, and between the L'Anse/Baraga and Houghton/Hancock ports via the Portage entry in the state of Michigan. The lighthouse is approximately three miles north of Huron Point and the Huron Mountains, some twenty miles east of the Keweenaw Peninsula. No public access to the islands is available at this time.

The road junction is 5 ╜ miles west of the US-41 and M-28/ US-141 junction. North on the Plains Road (paved) 5 miles. Right on Big Lake Road (gravel) 3 miles. Phone number indicated above is for the Management Unit. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 12 sites for tent and small trailer use located on the east shore of Big Lake. This is a rustic campground with vault toilets, hand pump well. No reservations. The campground is open from May through November. Big Lake. Big lake is a 127-acre shallow sand bottom lake.
