Lac LaBelle was an important shipping point and was used as a port of refuge by Great Lake ship caught in storms. Haven Falls is located near this present day summer resort. The settlement arose from the operations of the Mendota Mining Company operations here. Named from the lake it borders on. Now a resort community. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
