A person that wants to learn to hunt or wishes to buy a pistol may want to find an organization that offers gun instruction. An organization that offers gun instruction courses may be a private gun club or public shooting range that employs gun instructors or has members that act as volunteer gun instructors. A gun instruction course may include lessons on the safe handling of guns and ammunition and how to choose the right weapon for your application as well as how to shoot accurately. In some places a passing a gun instruction course may be necessary before a person can purchase a gun or get a permit.
When people want to go skeet shooting or trap shooting, they often go to skeet shooting ranges or trap shooting ranges. Skeet and trap shooting are sports in which participants shoot clay targets called traps or clay pigeons with shotguns. Because it is illegal to fire shotguns in many places, many people practice skeet shooting and trap shooting at skeet and trap shooting ranges. Some skeet shooting ranges are open to the public and people need to bring their own clay pigeons, their own trap houses and their own launching machines. Other public skeet ranges and trap ranges have trap launchers and clay pigeon houses. Some skeet shooting ranges are private and only members of a club can use the skeet shooting and trap shooting facilities.
